Workshops
Block printed textiles workshop - an introduction to Indian Block Printing using traditional hand-carved wooden blocks.
In this relaxed and fun workshop you will learn how to apply paint, and build simple repeating patterns to create your own tote bag or cushion.
During the workshop you will have a practice on a piece of cotton fabric, getting the hang of the colours, composition and block printing technique. You will then move on to print the finished piece, could be a tote bag or cushion cover - and will leave with a finished item you've created by hand.
All materials provided.
Suitable for all artistic abilities.
About your host Hayley:
As part of her textiles business Hayley & Co, Hayley designs and works with block print fabrics and small block print studios in Jaipur, India to make and bring to life her range of pyjamas, bags and wash bags, which is where the obsession with this beautiful craft began.
From her travels to Jaipur and Bagru, learning from the master printers, Hayley has quite a collection of wood blocks and loves to share her passion for this artisan, heritage craft.
Hayley teaches small block printing workshops, usually to groups of 6-10 people.
Hayley studied art and textiles at college, before moving onto a degree in Fashion Design. After gaining commercial experience as knitwear and accessories designer, Hayley set up her own label, Hayley & Co, back in 2009, which is based at her home studio in Clitheroe, Lancashire, and sells online as well at fairs and markets. Hayley's passion for colour, print and textiles shines through her range, predominately using block printed cottons.
Hayley hosts and runs block printing workshops in Lancashire, the Ribble Valley, Skipton, Cumbria and Yorkshire. If you are looking for a fun, relaxed creative craft workshop and fancy learning block printing, please get in touch or book on one of our upcoming workshops listed below.
